"Salviamo la luna"is a public art and civic participation project. It uses photography as the initial vehicle to engage the neighbors of Cinisello Balsamo, in the Italian province of Milan, through the display of their portraits, as proposed in an open process by the artist Jochen Gerz. After overcoming several challenges Fran Reyes and Davide Ferrario have almost ready a documentary that picks up the proposal, and taking it beyond the initial scope, becomes an exploration of civic society and public art.

Assorted Artomatic

Artomatic07's kick-off was quite the party. As it is common in openings, art is offered more as a backdrop to the entertainment than as the main course of the meeting. However, this is not necessarily something bad at all. And yet, it is true that Back to Work. both with friends as well as with strangers, did rather well, and provoked quite a broad reaction. But this is neither the occasion to talk about that proposal nor the time to elaborate that the key virtue of Artomatic is to generate conversations, participations, and proposals, or the time to offer a more critical perspective around its inner mechanisms and outside projection. In time I hope to get to these topics. Now probably is the time to speak about some of the exhibited art.

Open Invitation
Artomatic is prepared to roll this Friday April 13 with Back to Work installed and ready. All are invited to visit the exhibition. If you have trouble attending the opening, Artomatic will be open for 5 weeks and there will be plenty of events and performances. Cinco de Mayo and the closing night look particularly party ready.
